This year’s exciting new finds at El Zotz were formally announced today in Guatemala, featuring a large Early Classic tomb and a temple covered in ornate stucco sculpture. Big congratulations go out to Proyecto Arqueológico El Zotz co-directors Steve Houston (Brown University) and Edwin Roman (UT-Austin!) for their discoveries.

Dave,
What Steve found is incredible and will re write our understanding of the Maya. It is a great life changing discovery, especially the textiles. I met Steve years ago when he was first at Yale, with Mike, but now I guess his mind is spinning as a Mayanist. I’m sure you feel the same as many of us.
